Rights

Based Approach

Our work at TAMM aims to enable minorities and marginalized individuals and groups to realize their human rights as enshrined in national and international legal instruments. TAMM recognizes an inclusive society built on respect for human rights, non-discrimination, tolerance, diversity, equality of opportunity, solidarity, security, and the participation of all people, including those marginalized.

Community Centered

Approach

TAMM actively works with targeted communities to strategize, design, and implement solutions to the barriers that they face. We recognize that people with disabilities, women, people of ethnic minorities, and other marginalized communities understand their challenges and possess local knowledge and expertise that drives sustainable change when included. By collaborating with these groups, TAMM ensures that interventions are relevant, effective, and sustainable.

Inclusive

Community Feedback

We are strongly guided by the humanitarian principle of accountability to the communities we serve, donors, and all relevant stakeholders. TAMM has developed a community feedback mechanism detailing guidelines for access to information, complaints and response mechanisms, and service delivery scope for each project. People from marginalized communities often need access to CRM mechanisms due to limited access to information, language barriers, high illiteracy levels, and inaccessible communication materials and pathways. All our project’s CRM mechanisms are customized to fit the targeted community’s needs. This includes establishing a free hotline (Text and call-based), anonymous reporting channels, skilled staff who respond to the complaints, community awareness about the CRM, and transparency about the project goals to enhance mutual understanding between TAMM and the communities.

According to a 2021 report by the Minority Rights Group and some national organizations in Somalia, minority communities in Somalia have reported threats and retaliation following the filing of complaints, which compromises the effectiveness of the CRM. TAMM is keen on building community trust by upholding a non-retaliation principle.

Holistic

Approach

We recognize that the challenges faced by minorities and marginalized communities are multi-dimensional and require a multi-pronged approach to realizing inclusive development. We understand that progress in one dimension cannot be achieved at the expense of the others. By taking a holistic approach, TAMM seeks to promote balanced and inclusive development that addresses the needs of present and future generations.

Sustainability

Approach

TAMM firmly believes in sustainable development and understands that achieving long-lasting change requires addressing the root causes of inequality and marginalization. We take on comprehensive approaches in advancing inclusion through provision of interlinked interventions that address immediate needs and long-term empowerment for resilience-building. In pursuing sustainable development, we consider the interconnectedness of the social, economic, and environmental dimensions. By adopting sustainability-informed approaches and promoting inclusive decision-making processes, TAMM aims to create stable, safe, and just societies where everyone can thrive.
